A Letter from the Director

Dear Friends,

With close to 100-inches of snow, winter 2015 packed a serious punch! While folks in Cambridge and all around the Commonwealth wondered if they would ever see the ground again, local artists were hard at work in their studios creating new work and Cambridge Arts was busy making plans for 7th Annual City-wide Cambridge Arts Open Studios.

Scheduled to take place on Mother’s Day weekend, May 9-10, 12Noon – 6pm, Open Studios provides residents and visitors in Cambridge with the opportunity to visit artist studios, enjoy group exhibitions in Common Venues, and, for the first time, to experience live performances by artists affiliated with the city’s vibrant performing arts community in many of these same locations. With all this creative activity and unique artwork to see and purchase, this will surly be a memorable and exciting Mother’s Day weekend!

This year, Open Studios also coincides with the opening of the Lunder Arts Center on Lesley University’s Porter Square campus, the new home of the College of Art and Design. Elevating Lesley’s core mission of teaching, supporting, and celebrating creativity, the center will serve as a vibrant hub for art making, arts education, expressive therapies, and design. Already a terrific partner to the neighbors and businesses in Porter Square, Lesley University has been clear that the Lunder Arts Center will be a resource not just for students and faculty but also for the city’s young people, Cambridge Public Schools, and the dynamic community of artists that make Cambridge such a diverse and interesting place.

This is exciting news for Cambridge and demonstrating this intention Lesley signed on as a Major Sponsor for Cambridge Arts Open Studios this year! We are grateful for their partnership and look forward to seeing the positive relationship between Lesley and the city continue to grow and deepen. So, beginning with the Common Venue at Lunder Arts Center and with Open Studios as your guide, dig in to creativity with your mom and the other special women in your life. Be sure to download the Cambridge Arts Open Studios app and visit the Cambridge Arts website (cambridgeartscouncil.org) for more opportunities to engage, get involved, AND find the perfect gift for mom!

See you in the studios!
